ABSTRACT
While so much information is reported in open literature regarding plastic
extruders, rubber extruder design is still remaining aloof. The present paper
deals with relevant theory, rheological and design aspects of extruders employed
in the field of various elasotomer applications. Starting from the early history
of Screws, barrels, die heads and dies, effect of screw and barrel temperatures,
shear head technology, pin extruder, followed by performance parameters. Typical
comparison between plastic and rubber extruders and a few case studies are
discussed in this lecture.
